North Washington Street Bridge

Client: JF White Contracting Co., Inc. Owner: MassDOT Status: On-Going Location: Boston, MA

ACD was contracted to perform the demolition of the existing North Washington Street Bridge in Boston. The work was performed in multiple phases. The west sidewalk was removed first to allow for the installation of the temporary utility bridge. Next, the existing fender system was removed. The largest phase was performed in Summer 2020, which included the complete removal of the swing span, Spans 4 - 10, and partial removal of Spans 1 - 3. The existing piers had to be removed down to 5 feet below mudline in the new channel (Swing Pier, Pier 5 & Pier 6) and 2 feet below mudline (Piers 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9 & 10). Existing granite abutments were removed to the beam seat elevations.
